I am at work with no internet on my n900, but I am connected to my desktop via USB, which has a LAN connection. I am trying to download apps that I would normally get through Extras in App Manager, but I am not sure what to do with the .install file once I get it on my desktop.

Please help!!! I really don't want to go back to work

Hmm.. I´m sorry. Linux ain´t windows You probably need deb packet and the problematic thing might be that packet needs other packages (it depends on something else) and those other packages need probably internet connection. But if you have all the necessary packages installed for game/app then you only need deb file which you can search and download for example here:

just open it - and it will jump to App manager. but i think you can't install app anyway without internet. so it's better to get .deb files.

the .install file is merely a link to the repository to search and download a deb file.

Its best to open it by downloading it on your phone when you have a network connection so it can install the dependencies as well....

*EDIT*
sorry ZogG, your post wasnt there when I typed this.

hmm.. i think i read somewhere that it's possible to use the dektops internet on the n900 using the usb-cable. Don't need it so haven't looked in to it.

Yeah I had a feeling I was missing some fundamental understanding of how these apps work
