Google Latitude will do exactly what you're after.
Just save the bookmark to desktop and click once to see where everyone is (phone independent).

That sucks!
I guess it's a hardware issue, too?
I have seen a thread which talks about having the N900 identify as iPhone, maybe that could help?
That sucks... Shouldn't have to hack and tweak a device to have it work.
