Hi! I really love my N900 I just picked up. I had an N97 before, but it did not live up to the needs I needed it for. I was an Iphone user before that and have come into the light of this powerful phone. The issue I am having is that I am part of a family plan with AT&T. It would be awesome to have 3G to take advantage of the internet on this device. Is there a way I can pre-pay for a 3G plan on T-Mobile while continue to use my AT&T line? Any help would be much appreciated. I read this website and was wondering if it might still work:

That would be dumb sense the data only sim is like 40 a month (tmo).

I have at&t and data on edge (2.5g) blows. its almost impossible to stream video, but audio streaming is err. reasonable. Not worth the 30 a month extra Im paying.

Ive been thinking about switching over to tmobile data and using sip or something.

The mistake there is paying for the $30 plan, as their $15 plan (assuming it still exists) is plenty sufficient for 2.5G browsing. I'd switch to T-Mobile, but their coverage is still terrible enough to the point I'd be on AT&T's 2.5G most of the time anyway.

wha? I have a family plan.... and unlimited data... it's $10 per phone. if you have more than 3 phones, it caps at $30.

so if you are paying $30, you are not only paying for your phone, but other people's internet as well.

I have the 2.5g and yeah, it ain't so hot. I have wifi at work, and wifi at home though, so I guess it only sucks on the road. I'm stuck in this family plan for what seems like life.

If you're not on a family plan, AT&T charges $30 for their smartphone dataplan.

My point is getting 3g data, (where i live tmo has good 3g coverage) and i travel for work so my wifi coverage is spotty lol.

And Im paying for a single phone to have internet on a family plan, and unlimited family txt/mms for the other 4 lines.

Yes, I used to be a T mobile user just switched to At&t recently because of T mobiles poor coverage in SF. I didn't have any plan of buy the N900, so I wish I sitcked to tmob.

However, the data plan for AT&T costing 30 bucks is "NOT WORTHED!!" I tried it for a month, it's amazingly slow. It will take you forever to use the app manager to download a small app. Watching a video on You tube is a nightmare.

If you get good coverage from T mobile in your area then def. switch to Tmobile, plus they are cheaper than At&t too. I wish I could switch but can't because I am in a family plan plus the network from T mobile is HORRIBLE in the Bay area.

smartphone is the key here. A widely-followed practice is to take a dumb-phone that AT & T gives for free when you take a new contract and enable data plan for it. Data plan for dumbphones is 15$. You don't have to boast to AT & T that you bought a high-end unlocked smartphone like N900, in which case they'll charge 30$ per month.
