I hear you It is depressing to use a phone like N900 at 2.5G speeds. Seeing all the hype about T-Mobile 7.2 Mbps 3G rollout, I thought their coverage improved and bought a pre-paid SIM. Surprise, TMO coverage still sucks in bay area.

@phatman2600 - Just out of curiosity, if this plan works do you intend to keep switching SIM cards for data usage (TMO) vs voice calls (AT&T)?

yeah anyone paying at&t $30 for data for an N900 is a fool. esp since you dont even have 3G. the $10/$15 medianet plan is what im using on both the N900 and N97 mini, and its fine.

Has anyone used a dual-sim adapter with the n900 yet? I can live with having to switch between the 2 as long as i dont have to turn off my phone.

No, it's a standard SIM with unlimited data. I do more than 40MB pretty much every month. I think I have yet to exceed 1GB, but I don't think they'll pay attention unless I got near 5GB.

At the very least, I haven't found my data access cut or seen my bill jump

Tmobile just kills your speed after 5gb no overages.

Actually that's what I was hoping for. I think we need to wait for one these things to happen:

- US/FCC/AT&T decide to consolidate the 950/1800 Mhz frequency band (AT&T 3G) with 2100 Mhz band (TMO/Europe 3G). This is never going to happen

- Nokia releases a phone that works on 950/1800/2100 Mhz 3G frequencies (yes 3G not EDGE/GPRS). Seriously, why is that so difficult? I understand that battery life might suck, but at least release a concept phone.

- A consumer-friendly dual-sim adapter that can be inserted into a phone like a regular SIM card.

I was considering doing the two-sim adapter. I'm wondering if I truly need 3G after using it today. It just feels strange not having 3G available with such a powerful phone. By the way, are the bands that are specific for the device hardware based? Is it the antenna chip that uses these bands? I'm wondering if software can change this or even taking the chip from an N97.
