I just received a new Nokia 800. I am trying to set it up to my Apple Extreme base station. It doesn't appear to be finding the network even when I hold it right next to the router. All of my other computers have no problem connecting. The wireless on the Nokia 800 does work as I've tested it on unencrypted networks. I think it may have something to do with the "WPA/WPA2 Personal" encryption setting. Has anyone had similar problems? Please let me know. thanks!

Yes, I have the same issue of not being able to connect my N800 to my friend's Apple Airport Extreme network too. I think the problem is more of a channel issue and frequency band setup (2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz). Anyway, I'm looking into it next week and I'll give some feedback later

definitely not the WPA settings. I have that enabled on a Belkin router and my Nokia pics it up just fine.

It could be a channel issue as mentioned. Try picking one of the middle channels, say 5 or 6 and seeing it can connect. Also try turning off the encryption and see if the N800 can find it. I have the new AirPort Extreme and using it quite well with my N800. The N800 does not support the 5.5 ghz band I think. You might want to check this as well.

Thanks. It worked once I switched encryption to WPA2 only.

Thanks for this thread guys ... saved me allot of time. Just wanted to say that with the latest firmware (v5.1) I had to change the WiFi channel from 'Automatic' to '5'.

The encryption method didn't seem to have anything to do with my issue, as turning off all encryption failed to resolve the issue. But with the channel set to '5' I am able to connect with my N800 (and my girl friends N770) and use 'WPA2' encryption.

Hope this helps someone new to the forms with the same problem. Thanks again to everyone above for posting this info!

Changing encryption from WPA/WPA2 to WPA2 got it working for me.

I just wanted to add a "me too". After finding this thread I literally switched from WAP/WPA2 to just WPA2 with no other changes and this allowed both my N800 and my 770 to see the access point, whereas on Friday neither could either detect the airport extreme or connect to it.

I notice that Xbox360 owners are having difficulty too and in a post here "Microsoft's tech support apparently is telling customers that Apple routers are not recommended.".

See also the Xbox thread at apple discussions.
