    some problems cropping up

have been using the n900 for at least 6 months with no problems

a couple of days ago the backlight starts coming on by itself
even if the phone was locked it would come on and unlock itself

    for the following...

Eye widget informs me that the accelerometer is working fine
and accdisplay also shows everything good

Now the phone (when turned) does not go into portrait mode for the phone mode

even if i manually open the phone app it does not change to portrait AT ALL

recently i found out that the phone would not unlock when the keyboard was opened
    (it used to do it)

and also (not that im complaining) the phone does not reset when i remove the battery from the device

(the phone does not revert to the reseting of the date time and regional settings)

i tried to reflash -- no change *
    i downgraded --- no change *
i reflashed to current after the downgrade -- no change *

    * throughout all these the browser bookmarks and messages and contacts were not erased

    Please help me fix these

When you say "downgraded", which firmware had you upgraded to?

Removing the battery is NOT supposed to reset the phone.

Reflashing replaces many but not all things and does not necessarily wipe your settings.

Have you checked the "Turning Control" options in the phone applications menu? That might be why it's not turning when you turn the phone.

to completely reset everything about your phone (except custom lock codes for some reason) you must also flash the eMMC but only do so as a last resort as you will lose everything that isn't backed up to pc/mac or micro sd

    finally figured it out

installed the keyboard daemon thing and realized it wasn't going on/off when i open the keyboard

meaning the keyboard (to the phone) is stuck in the OPEN position somehow

thats why the phoner app won't rotate even though i have it in portrait/auto with launch by turning on

the keyboard switch is a magnetic one.

and here in the forum are a big thread about how the leather case with the magnetic lock can break your device.

    maybe its your case
