After PR1.2 nothing happens, since we will be in 2012 by then, and as you all know, it's the end of the world (or something like that)

just kidding, of course Blame for this bad joke goes to the horrible sleepless night I had

Probably 1.2 will come in approx 3 years from now. when everyone allready moved on to a new phone. I have absolutely no idea what the boys from nokia are doing up there...

What worries me about Nokia is they have spent months on PR1.2 its holding everything up and a bunch of enthusiasts have managed to port Android over to the platform in a matter of weeks.

If we do get a fully functional port of Android I may even give it a go.

Can you imagine what damage would be inflicted on Nokia if their users started reflashing their devices over to android en masse? It would be the ultimate PR coup for Google!

Cmon Nokia put some effort into fixing your o/s's

The thing is, that prediction is very accurate IMO. It is not cynical or negative, just accurate. Maemo is a dead end road, MeeGo is the future, it is an official statement from Nokia. Why would anyone choose to develop apps for Maemo, when MeeGo is the future?

As far as community development goes, I have not seen a single usable thing being developed that extends the OS for non geeks. Development for the N8x0 ended up in nothing, and now the "community" wants to port MeeGo to the device, a device that is several years old and hardly used by anyone anymore, but one that is very usable as it is. Where is the sense of direction? This "community" is in dire need for a reality check. As soon as MeeGo can be booted in terminal mode on the N8x0, I am sure all momentum is gone, and the "community" is off doing another useless endeavor, like porting Maemo on the new natively running MeeGo N9xx-something.

fMMS is very usable, but that was the effort of one single person, with support from Nokia.

This sounded even more negative and cynical than the original post, but I am sure it is just as accurate. But don't get me wrong, right now there is no other phone I would have than the N900. What will come after PR1.2? Well, if it's not a full blown MeeGo with support from Nokia, it is utterly irrelevant. Besides, I will purchase the first MeeGo device coming in any case, and I am sure most of you will as well. If a working and supported MeeGo is released for the N900, I would consider it a bonus, a big one, but I don't think Nokia will do that because I am sure that PR1.2 will make the N900 very very good for the average user. But MeeGo on the N900 supported by the community, that would be a real project.

I think that we will work together to develop meego and if it doesn't work out (meego = maemo 6 development with funding)

@bsving I feel you're hitting the nail on the head, although maybe missing the point. TMO is a geek place for geek projects - things like obsolete emulators, network tools, etc. TMO should not be the driving force for the N900/Maemo as it does not represent the mainstream demands of the majority of users. IMO this is the reason for all the unrest.
