I just try this software and it's amazing! thanks!

Anyone know how to use an incoming udp streaming as source, from DVBDream for example ??

In VLC, I can see streaming manually opening udp://127.0.0.1:1234

Okay - my eyelids are starting to break the toothpicks holding them up.

I locked the cpu/dsp @ retail settings (600/430) and watched quite some content. It's really fluid and nice @ 112kbit mp3 / 800kbit h264. Even moreso than the "dynamic" frequency mode with 900mhz max cpu. So I reckon my theory about the hiccups being caused by the dynamic clock frequency adjustment is plausible.

Anywho - I'll export the profile tomorrow, and it should produce a stream that'll put a smile on any stock n900 owners face who has a server to fulfill its needs.

    ZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZ...

okay so i have just been reading up and you have added gstreamer support....

now does the gstreamer use the DSP because that would really make a difference in battery usage? if yes i will be happy to test it

as i said before i use knots alot for streaming TV to my N900 on stock kernel

and i have been playing alot with the profiles so as soon as i get off work i will test it out.

just to be sure how was it again you can add gstreamer in the profile?

Install 0.3.1-1 from -devel, edit your transcoding profile and add "gstreamer" to the player field and save. Then connect with the client and reselect the profile even if it's currently in use. You can start a stream and press q when it's playing. If it doesn't stop playback, it's using gstreamer. And yes, it should then use dsp, playback should be smoother and use less battery with certain codecs like h264. Current default N900 profile may not work with gstreamer, so use the settings wildt posted or start with the n8x0 profile.

If you update your server like i mention in this post and then add that url under Edit media section, it might work. Problem is that udp streams may take a long time to start so knots can give up waiting for them. I could add some kind of hack for udp streams so that knots waits for them longer than other type of media.

Gstreamer does support streaming, but it took me a while to get the xv stuff working with playbin2. And I wasn't too concerned about it since mplayer worked fine and not many people requested gstreamer.

It stil needs the code to keep the screen lid during video playback so you need to tap the screen once in a while. But let me know how much better battery life you are getting with it.

    Rightio here's the profile.

A little suggestion: When scanning folders there are 3 dropdown menus where you can specify where audio/video/pictures goes. Could you add an "Don't scan this filetype" option to those dropdowns?

EDIT: I've removed this profile - check the following page for a newer version.
