quick tuturial:
making sure phone is off,
download flasher (to PC)
install
download firmware
download install.bat
move firmware and install.bat to C:\Program Files\maemo\flasher-3.5
plug usb into computer only
run install
and hold U on the n900 keyboard and plug in usb to n900
should connect then start to install (takes about 90seconds)
boot up your n900

Edit: I have just updated an old guide I made ages ago but now with new firmware version. should work still though. + This is for the global firmware, is this the region you want to install?
hi, i just realized i cant download the file in megaupload, is there any alternative? thanks

Links to all the files you need are on the Maemo wiki.

As for overclocking - wouldn't you rather just have your phone working? It is allegedly possible, but I'm not about to try it (until and unless I buy a second N900).

As you need help to reflash your phone (no shame in that so long as you google before asking) maybe you should steer clear of overclocking, which is a complex and potentially phone-destroying operation.

The benefits you list:
  • a faster phone - maybe
  • longer battery life - really? doesn't sound very likely
may be outweighed by various potential downsides, including but not limited to:
  • instability
  • having to wait for someone to put out a hacked version of any kernel upgrades if you want to upgrade and keep your overclocking
  • shorter battery life
  • overheating
  • possibly even a strange burning smell coming from inside your suddenly-dead N900 (I didn't say this was likely, but don't tell me it's impossible)

have you any experience of this coz your speaking like some one that hasn't... can you point to any case of any of these problems you have seen... please

Edit: although,Titan just added some new things to his kernel that did make a lot of phones unstable as well as mine, but that my fault for not waiting to upgrade to new version without seeing any testing reports. and wasn't anything to do with overclocking but of the other advance features he has added to our phones.

but I'm not saying there are no dangers, just I'm yet to see any that you have mentioned in real life.

no has to be install.bat. or windows wont run it. it works like a script for linux.

go to my computer: go to tools : then select 'Folder Options' then the view tab then untick hide extensions for known file types. you will then be able to change file to .bat

Edit: like this http://www.fileinfo.com/help/windows...xtensions.html
