Think i've worked out what going on, my windows file server hasn't got enough power to transcode the video files for the N900 which is why it only streams audio.
I tried using Knots and got much better results and video streamed although it was very jerky, my old Pentium III in my file server just cant keep up.

If it's not HD material, you could get better results with the Passthrough profile
and the N900 playback seems faultless.
my daughter will be very happy she can now watch tom and jerry

What is a passthrough profile? Is this something on Windows or the N900? Sorry for being a n00b. I have the same issue as fuel with my N900 and Orb. I can play Music but cant watch any videos.
Any help appreciated.

Ive got orb up and running on my windows box over my wireless LAN and the N900 detects orb.
Music streams fine but the video just wont play.
If i put the same video files locally on the N900 it plays without fault.
ive also tried TVersity just to see if i can replicate the problem with orb, which i can.
Any suggestions are much appreciated, as i'm sure i'm overlooking something quite simple.
