Have you tried taking the battery out and then restarting?
Reflashing with the lastest firmware may correct the problem, flashing with the lastest firmware will not delete your data - worth a try.
Failing that if it is a hardware problem send it to Nokia for repair.

even reflashing the rootfs does not help...

I unique problem started on my device yesterday and its going on.
Whenever i try and connect to gprs on my 2G network (dont have 3G) the cellular network just goes away and doesnot come back at all..
restarting the phone doesnot help..
have uninstalled wifi switcher and auto disconnect apps but that doesnot help either..
the only thing that works is if i connect to wifi, the signals come back
but right now am in a No WIFI zone and dont know what to do..PLS HELP!!!
