What do you mean with doesn't work ? I got Gmail configured trough Nokia Messaging and unread E-mails show up in the desktop Widget.
The Wrench/configuring Widget thingie doesn't work tough.

for me it doesn't work.
gmail configured through Nokia Messaging -> emails won't show up in the desktop widget.
the wrench thingie works, if you have more than one email account configured. it let you specify which email-account will show up in the desktop widget.

Bug 10294: "Email widget on desktop does not display mails from Nokia Messaging accounts" has been created. Please vote if you faced the same issue.

Regarding the spanner not working issue, it might be better if one you guy create a different bug for it because it is working fine for me.

I think I have an idea what's up with this.
My email is set up like in the attached image. The widget will only show new message for my TAMU mail and my Gmail.
For these two, checking my mail is a two step process while for Nokia messaging it is a three step process. I'm guessing this problem arises because Nokia Messaging doesn't handle email like the other two. The problem stems from the way Modest handles Nokia Messaging
I think the wrench will only show up if you have more than one email account. Having multiple Nokia messaging accounts do not work.

unbelievable that they would let this get out and not work with their own email client. i too can't use the widget with nokia messaging. funny thing is that they feature it as one of the highlighted changes on the update screen. unreal. good thing they waited to test this out before releasing it.
