Hi,

Setup a constant ping; 770 running on charged battery; allowed the 770 to enter standby mode through screen off - as soon as the screen went blank the Ping stopped.

Did exactly the same thing with the AC adaptor connected, Ping continued - no problem.

Gonna try flashing some alternative kernel images and see if it makes a difference. Enabled syslog, compared an AC powered suspend with a batteyr supsend - no difference that I could see.

Running out of ideas ........

Cheers,
Darren

Also, the device works fine with AC adaptor removed, but connected to PC through usb.

Tried every flash image I could find; no improvement.

however found a workaround - bit of a kludge - enabled the serial console as per

http://maemo.org/community/wiki/Flasher_tool_usage

however I think this is just a variant on the MP3 method; enabling the serial console prevents the device from entering deep sleep (I think this is where the problem is). So while this appears to fix things, I suspect the battery life during standby will be poor.

I'm still looking for the answer .... help !

Copied the OS to the MMC and booted from MMC - that bit works ok, but as soon as I switch off the serial console the problem reappears (even when running from the card).

!!!!!!!!

I guess its going back. Anyone got a good condition 770 (that works) that they are interested in selling (perhaps an upgrader?).

I read this thread and now I wonder what is the normal behavior of the device. Mine seems to keep running if I select "disable touchscreen" from the Power Menu or if I close the cover. Ping ist running continuously and a MP3 will play while the device is "offline".

So I think the device really only switches off the screen and touchscreen. I think this is not optimal because the device will draw much power if it is contiunously running. The better thing would be, that the device will really go to sleep, stopping the processor slowing it down very much.
