Another N900 and D3000 owner here.

You will find lots of help and support on the Flickr D3000 group.

I wouldn't buy any lens on eBay unless you have the serial number and you can trace it (and it's a good lens).

You don't need to buy anything to start out. Also, if you buy glass (lenses), you need to invest an appropriate amount. Most decent glass will start around 500 euro, and can go up to multiple thousands. Having good glass is a lot more important than having a good body (most of the time you can re-use the glass on other bodies).

For example, the canon 10-22 goes for about 700 euro. The 200mm prime lens goes for 400 euro. Buying anything from china will mean you'll end up with crappy glass, massive distortion, chromatic aberration, and you'll just be disgusted.

Buy little, but buy well.

Well you may clarify this, you may learn use every feature in camera/lens, but if don't educate your eyes to find interesting creative composes you are nothing. Learn composition, go art galleries to check out the masters use of space in a frame, subscribe to forums, and shot a lot

I have a Panasonic L1 and here is my flickr link http://www.flickr.com/photos/omny/ just in case you iinterested to take a look, hope you get what you want.
