While I've not tried it, perhaps JoikuSpot is one of the simplest ways?

It's a paid-for app, but it's a one-off payment up-front which might be worthwhile.

http://maemo.nokia.com/n900/tips/tethering/linux/

that's the ubuntu guide... The debian method was similar. The french guide followed by dglent seems to be much the same but a more manual method. Recent Ubuntu and future Debian (squeeze) have a NetworkManager version recent enough to automate most of this stuff.

Sorry I wasn't much help, but am on the road around australia right now and my internet time is a bit limited.

I'd be interested in a solution here as well.
I can't get N900 in "PC Suit" mode work with my debian linux via usb.

OK, maybe this will help....
Using Gnome PPP on o2's network the settings I'm using are as follows:
init 2 ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCCLASS=0
init 3 AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","mobile.o2.co.uk"

Username: mobileweb
Password: I can't remember! I found it by Googling anyway.
Phone number: *99#

Gnome PPP auto detected my N900 plugged into the USB slot in PC Suite mode at /dev/ttyACM0.

Hope that helps!

I tried that but i couldn't get a connection work with kppp.
I always go the error:

"16 The link was terminated by the modem hanging up."

Finally, i found this:

http://meego.de/forum/netzwerk/585-u...x-pc.html#1877

That works fine and is easy to set up. No need for these "init"-commands.

P.S. just realized that it's written in German :-) Sorry.
For setup, just execute once the few lines within these boxes starting with "#". That are:

apt-get install wvdial ppp
wvdialconf
vim /etc/wvdial.conf (and edit phone number, username, password)

That's it.
To connect then execute:

wvdial

To close the connection, use "CTRL-C"

Maybe, it's usefull to add the following line in /etc/wvdial.conf below the line starting with init2=..

Init3 = AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","APN"

With APN replaced by the specific one from your internet service provider. For O2 Germany, it's then:

Init3 = AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"

It works here also without this additional line but i read in that German thread it's useful for public IP and openVPN? Actually, I don't know but added the line and it still works fine :-)
