    A new version of Kagu Media Player for maemo is out! You can download it here:
    http://maemo.org/downloads/product/kagu/

    This new 1.0.4 release includes:
    * Many performance enhancements (including faster AVRCP commands!)
    * New theme
    * Playback modes (repeat/repeat one/shuffle/normal)
    * SongPositionView for seeking in songs and audio books.
    * No more OK button in Album/Song/NowPlaying views. Instead, just tap an
    item to select it.

    Everyone currently running 1.0 or 1.0.2 should upgrade as this release is an all around better performer.

    **NOTE: We released a 1.0.3 version earlier today, but it was b0rked, so we re-released with a fixed 1.0.4!

    Thanks!

    BTW, AVRCP is pause/play/next/prev via Bluetooth. You can learn about it on this page: http://www.bluetooth.com/Bluetooth/Learn/Glossary/

    Here's an excerpt:

AVRCP defines how to control characteristics of streaming media. This includes pausing, stopping, and starting playback and volume control as well as other types of remote control operations.

    Another quick note: To see this new "SongPositionView", just tap the album icon in the lower right of the screen while in the NowPlayingView. (i.e. if in doubt tap the album icon in the lower right it until you see it)

    NOTE: You have to be actually playing a song/book and it has to have a length in order to access the SongPositionView. That last part might seem silly, but sometimes the players (i.e. OSSO or Mplayer) take a few seconds to report the song length or don't report it at all.

    Hello. All you need is python 2.5. You can get it here: http://pymaemo.garage.maemo.org/

    Don't bother with the python 2.5 on maemo.org/downloads. It doesn't work. I don't know why.

    Thank you! Glad you like it. Don't forget to thank disq and unique311 while you're at it. They both worked very hard and contributed a great deal to the release as well.

    For example, the bulk of our new playmode support is disq's. In addition, maemoscrobbler is disq's work (without which we could not scrobble), and frankly this Kagu release (and every Kagu release before it) would never have made it out the door without his packaging effort. Honestly, I'm leaving a good deal out here. I really can't communicate how much he helps the project. I wake up nearly every morning and spend a large part of my day trading ideas with him.

    unique311 worked very hard and contributed the ground work of the new theme that you see. We weren't even using PSD files (i.e. layers) before he chipped in. The theme that ships with 1.0.4 has changed greatly from his original contribution, but without his work we probably would not have a new theme.

    Of course, I work hard on Kagu too, but it's really unfortunate that my name is on the release since Kagu is the collective effort of many.

    We intend to keep it that way too. Kagu is a community project. We hope you will join us in making Kagu better. We need theme designers, programmers, and testers. But most of all we need you to continue using Kagu and continue to give us feedback and ideas. Those things are what will make Kagu great for everyone.

    Very nice, guys! Very nice! I like the new theme *much* better, and the deletion of the OK button makes it feel more "natural" now, compared to what I am used to on media players. Bluetooth icon now matches the connected/disconnected color of the Nokia toolbar icon. The shuffle and repeat modes are welcome additions.

    Install went without a hitch, my A2DP still works great. I also updated mplayer since it had an update in the repository. One question: when I first ran the new version of Kagu, it wanted to scan for my songs. Does this just overwrite what I already had scanned in 1.0.2, or does it create another storage directory for album covers? All of my songs right now are on 'mmc2'. Not a big deal, I just figured if there were some files I could delete, I would do it.

    Anyways, congrats on the new version guys...hope more people come around and give Kagu a chance. I for one appreciate all the hard work, it's made my N800 push my iPod a little bit further away.
