Sorry if I am missing something simple here, but I can't get the latest update to install.
I had some initial problem with it even appearing in appmanager, but sorted that with getting rid of apps/space etc.

Now, when I choose the maemo update it prompts me to create a back up before continuing. I have created backups with Nokia PC software, and also the one on the phone, but then it doesn't give any sort of Continue prompt. Can only close the backup application and then I'm back to the beginning!

Please tell me if there is something I am missing, or if I am just being stupid!

Thanks,
Graeme

I can't ignore the backup prompt, no option. Either Create Backup, or hit the background and go back to the menu.

I had the same issue. it was only prompting me to backup.
I backed up everything and later on the only option to install PR1.2 was through USB cable (never through OTA)
I did the update and as soon as it finished I lost ALL my phone contacts.
I restored from backup but there were no phone contacts. Everything is gone, even apps. it only prompted me to re-install the lost apps.
the funny thing is that, I was instructed by the software before updating that my mp3s will be deleted.
Everything was deleted except the mp3s

any idea if I can get the contacts back?

It asks you to update via NSU so there might be enough rootfs space.
Have you tried freeing rootfs space

NSU doesn't even recognise there is an update available for my phone!

I checked the rootfs with the "df -h /" command. 61Mb free.

Disabled some repos. Guess what ....... no, it's not installed, but now it's disappeared from the app manager even though I've put all the repos back.

I have the same issue:

"df -h /" shows 31.4 MB free and when I try to update using the update app on the N900 I get only a backup option and there is no way to ignore it (same as on the screenshot). Doing a backup doesn't help.

I'm not sure if I want to update using NSU as I don't want to loose all of my data.

What should I do?

I had this same issue. It's because the phone isn't at the correct version for the 1.2 update.

I had to do a 175mb update on NSU, then the 130mb PR1.2.

Update via NSU first. click here hope that helps.

Thank you.

I have updates the using NSU and everything went smoothly.
I had a backup from before the update so I have restored it and all most of the apps got re-installed (I had to download it automatically one by one and install it automatically).
Most of the other settings got restored as well.
