Install rootsh and try the following steps.

1. First disable virtual keyboard from settings.

2. Enter the following in xterm:

sudo gainroot
apt-get install --reinstall hildon-im-plugin-base-settings hildon-im-keyboard-assistant-scv hildon-im-keyboard-assistant hildon-im-virtual-keyboard-layouts libhildon-im-ui3 libhildon-im-western-plugin-common3 hildon-im-fkb hildon-im-common-virtual-settings libhildon-im-vkbrenderer3
apt-get clean

3. Reboot the phone.

4. Enable virtual keyboard in the settings.

maybe Bern's advice is better than mine, but if you do copy the original files over, do
Code:
hildon-im-recache
afterwards

Thanks for the suggestions Bernard and Qwazix

I have tried them but still to no avail.

Any other ideas?

I had installed mscim, then uninstalled it. Al'hakim - you'll have to track down and uninstall all the scim files one by one.

After that, try this (from the Cellwriter files)

To go back to the default virtual keyboard:

gconftool-2 --type string /apps/osso/inputmethod/default-plugins/finger -s hildon_western_fkb

Worked for me.... after hunting the darn scim files. :-)

Hope it works for you.

google fixkbd.sh and put it in .documents, then open the x terminal and type:

sudo gainroot (rootsh needed for this)
sh MyDocs/.documents/fixkbd.sh

The virtual keyboard does not work consistently. Soooooo many times i have spent 4 minutes+ typing something on vkeyboard and it will just f'n disappear. When your done the text will just not be there. I have become so used to it that I avoid the vkeyboard except for short things.
You thought you just typed 3 paragraphs on v keyboard but it was all a trick. It's magically gone.
What name should we have for this type of software that tricks you in to believing you have a convenience you do not really have and every once in a while you accidentally depend on it as though it really works only to be screwed over?
How about "lol you actually tried to depend on it" software
or "tricked ya" software
or wait i know i know how about "see if you can figure it out software"
or how about "gotcha software"
wait I know "ouija board software" because sometimes the vkeyboard seems to be sending my F'n typing into the spirit world.
Wait I know "make yourself look like an *** in front of your friends software" because you just spent time typing sh** into a website in front of them and it just vanishes.
