Ok I have done a search and cant find a solution to this problem.

Whenever I am not in a 3g or wifi zone (2g) I cannot access any websites, not even WAP ones (not that I would want to on this amazing device). I am on o2 UK and was wonderng if this is an error with their service, an error with my device, or whether this is a common problem with the N900 and if there was a quick fix?

Is the device in offline mode?

Do you have any WiFi access points setup?

Do you have any mobile Internet APN ("Access Points") setup?

A bit of help explaining would go along way to someone helping you!

sorry, i can access the web via wifi and 3g, all websites load perfectly with no issues. but when i wander out of these zones i get a '404' style page saying cannot find server or something.

occasionally it will allow me to access but its very rare.

So you're saying when you have no network access you can't browse Internet pages?

no, just when the network is lower than 3g. so 2g 2.5 etc

Ok, that makes more sense. I thought you were trying to make Internet connectivity out of thin air

Does your operator have 2G data coverage? If so:

Then first question, has it ever worked on 2G? And if so, did something change?

And if not, maybe the simplest thing is to call your operator customer service, and ask them for details for your operators APN (Internet Access Point) for 2G.

Or else, you could google for "Operator name APN 2G details" (replace Operator name with your operator).

Or else, just give us the name here.

Hope that helps.

by operator im assuming you mean o2 uk (as explained in first post)? or am i misunderstanding this. my old primitive phone had coverage on 2G but i dont ever remember it working on the N900. i think ill just take it into one of their stores and let them sort it.

its not a major issue as im constantly on wifi at home and have 3G coverage at work. also, as a btinternet customer i discovered that i can enable my wifi for other bt users to access, enabling me to access other wifi spots that have been enabled.

edit: thanks for your help, if i dont get it sorted through o2 ill let u know

I missed the mention of o2! My mistake.

Ok, so it sounds like it is just that the Internet access settings (APN) are not configured on your N900. I use my N900 on 2G 90% of the time.

You could try these settings: http://is.gd/cudUM. You can add a second APN with this maemo app: http://is.gd/cudXZ

These settings could have changed, so if they do not work you should contact o2 and ask them.

Yes you can share your wifi with a service called Fon. Once other BT users share their wifi with fon also, you can use theirs, and vice-versa.

You need to sign-in to their wifi networks with a username and pass. I am not a BT customer, but I use fon, so it'll be different for me.

hope that helps.
