this is a call to all those out there who know a damn sight more about maemo and the n900 than I do.....
there's a load of talk about the new 1.2 firmware but I don't know how to get it???
I've had no exclamation mark appear in notifications and when I go into the app manager and run check for updates it tells me theres no updates available.
I've had the n900 for nearly 5 months now and never had an update of any sort.
what am I doing wrong? is it just a simple change to settings?
please help
thanks
jc (in the uk........who clearly knows jack about phones)
Look in Settings - select About Product and post the version number here.
Might also help if you let us know your PC's operating system as that will help us [point you at the right FAQ.
Edit: And try to avoid raising multiple threads about the same subject - it's sometime easier to search than to ask the same question many times.
Who is your mobile provider i.e. orange, vodafone etc. If you have bought directly from Vodafone, I understand they do not update the firmware. This would mean you have to manually flash. Very easy to do and nothing to be too scared of, just have some guidance the first time.
If you bought from a company such as MPD (mobile phones direct) then you should have received the update by now. You can go into application catalogs and check for updates.
Check your version of Maemo from the settings to find out whether any kernel mods have messed your system up.
If you still havenīt tried flashing the device from your computer without the PC-suite, you better try it now. Nearly all the problems of PR1.2 are due to not using the flasher...
my current operating system version is 2.2009.51-1.205-1
in 5 months I havent had a single update through the app manager. i must be doing something wrong
cheers
jc
It's Vodafone that are doing things wrong, they are always very poor at releasing firmware. You can flash your phone to the latest UK or Global edition - there is a wiki that you should read thoroughly before you start (remember to use the built in Backup software). You will find most of what you need to know in the wiki as long as you read the whole thing.
thanks hellnick, going to do the flash thing. if you dont hear from me again its only because it all went badly wrong and I've gone to the dark side and bought an apple (steve jobs is such a tosser!!)
