i filed a bug about problems with mails that contain multipart/alternative a while ago.
my problem wasn't quite what you describe, but as you mention multipart/alternative, the bugs may be related.
unfortunately, the bug is still in status 'unconfirmed' and i don't see any activity.

i have the same problem with missing email attachments, but so far i only experience this for my cell-phone email billing, where it came with a pdf attachment.
When i look at the inbox this mail has an attachment icon next to it, but when i open the email it only shows texts, without any indication that it contains attachment and there is no options to download attachment

I'm not sure if this is a fault of the N900 or the sending software.
I'm writing some PC software in .Net and have noticed that if the message includes multipart/alternative mime types for "alternative views" such as HTML and plaintext, then the PDF file I later attach becomes invisible to the N900 mail client.
Has anybody else experienced missing email attachments?
I don't experience this problem with Thunderbird or Outlook so am I right in thinking it may be a N900 fault?
At least I have established a potential cause now.
I look forwards to hearing your experiences in this are.
Thanks
