The Opera keyboard is ****ing perfect, both in landscape and in portrait, not to mention the browser itself, while the Maemo virtual keyboard is ****ing **** and doesn't even support portrait mode.
So is there anyway to get the Opera keyboard as the default virtual keyboard in Maemo?
I always thought N900's virtual keyboard was useless, well, thought also that having virtual keyboard when you have a physical one was useless.
But Opera's keyboard is so cool that it makes me want to have a slimmer cellphone with a virtual keyboard only!
No.
Well. What do you mean?
Maemo5 open OS could not be "hacked" to hook another vk?
You couldn't hook another vk?
No-one wants to hook another vk?
"No", is not a very well documented answer when speaking about a full debian distro, I think...
I can't find the exact post, but it was stated it wouldn't be doable because the Opera's keyboard is do integrated to the browser and the N900 uses a whole different system for the system wide virtual keyboard.

For sure you are smart enough to distinguish between algorithm and implementation, and some guys here are skilled enough to implement it as system vk.
Regards.
You can replace the VKB(there's a handwriting VKB available) but as joppu pointed out the Opera keyboard is built differently from the system-wide keyboard.
