    Volume keys work with locked screen in PR1.2! Can it be taken further?

    Not being able to change the volume on the Media Player without having to unlock the screen was one of the major issues I used to have with the N900 but PR1.2 fixed that. We can now use the hardware volume keys even if the screen is locked (though apparently only with the native Media Player).

    That just leaves one final step to make it possible to control the Media Player completely from your pocket - enabling song skipping with long presses of volume keys. Anyone have an idea of how to make that happen?
    Are the volume key events for long presses different from short presses, and if so could it be possible to write a script to enable song skipping?

    There is a small app to make the headset-button pause/play the mediaplayer.
    So it should be possible to change that to "next song"

    Just in case if there is no difference between short- or longpress on the volumebuttons

    it's called "headset-control" and is in extras-devel.
    Only thing to say: works only in PR1.2

    http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...ontrol.install

    btw: I would be very glad if someone could tell me how I can skip songs instead of pause/play when pressing the button

    That's good! So the only problem is to tell the daemon to take input from the volume keys on the N900 as well.

    I don't understand the instructions in the description either... What/where is GConf?

    As zyborg wrote @ my-maemo.com;

    "Enter this command in X Terminal:
    gconftool-2 --set /apps/headset-control/next-mode --type bool true (you may have to type 'sudo gainroot first to gain root access)."

    With other words,
    * sudo gainroot
    * gconftool-2 --set /apps/headset-control/next-mode --type bool true

    and thats about it. Working fine for me.
