Hi,
I am trying to bring my IT up-to-date after the install of the new OS. Besides other things I also installed evince and tried starting it on my N800. No reaction. So I went to my console and started evince from the command line. An error about an undefined symbol (see the title) in libgtk was reported.

I am using N800 with the new 4-2007.26-8 OS.
I also just did a magic.sys update in the AppManager ( I am not sure this has anything to do with the problem).
Also later I found out that Skype does not start anymore and issues the same error on the console. Skype definetly worked several days ago. Has anybody an idea how to fix this?

I did an apt-get install --reinstall of the libgtk2.0 package. The version on my N800:
/home/user # ls -l /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.600.10
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2404212 Jan 25 2007 /usr/lib/libgtk-x112.0.so.0.600.10
This did not resolve the problem.

Oh, I am booting from my Internal SDCard, but this should not be a problem.

Thanks.

My problem seems to be a major one. While writing the previous post my screen-connection to the tablett died. A reconnect was rejected "not enough ptys".
I tried a reboot of the IT. It hangs repeatedly after the progress bar has reached ~90%.
I can boot to my flash OK and mount the /dev/mmcblk0p2 partition. So there is hope.
But now it's time for bed .... Wonder which package wrecked my tablett ...

The reason for the boot failure seems to be:
user.log:Aug 19 12:52:11 Nokia-N800-26 DSME: Non-root process '/usr/bin/systemui' spawning too fast -> remove it

Now the libgtk error could be a reason for systemui not getting up. But why is the symbol not resolved ?
At some point in my installs following happened:

/home/user # ls -l /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 Jun 29 14:35 /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 -> libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.600.10
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2348888 Mar 21 14:08 /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.600.10
/home/user # ls -l /opt/usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 Aug 18 23:04 /opt/usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 -> libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.600.10
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2404212 Jan 25 2007 /opt/usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.600.10

This was executed on my N800, booted from flash with my SD-root partition mounted on /opt.
Very annoying: the same lib version but slightly different size and date.... Where did I get the older version on my SD?
Unfortunately a simple cp flash -> SD of the libgtk did not resolve the boot problem. Also a tedious check and copy of other related files (there were lot of them with the January date) in /usr/lib/gtk2.0/ directory did not help.

I will abandon the rescue path and reinstall my SD-card anew.

In case the reason for all the trouble is the libgtk, the culprit seems to be:
http://repository.maemo.org/pool/bora/free/binary/

This repo carries a libgtk2.0-0_2.6.10-2.osso30_armel.deb which has the libs with the January date. This should be fixed asap. Who should be informed ?

Most probably I got this version while updating magic.sys ...

Anyone some better clues? Thanks.

Red pill mode is meant for application developers only, not end users. These kinds of problems are EXPECTED when attempting them on end user firmware.
