i used the fiasco kernels, and its pretty easy, but ive gone back to stock cos phone would get too hot and battery life was a bit pants, and it feels just as snappy on stock as it did on 900mhz

I'm running the Ideal profile as it is. Apps seems to load faster for me and flash videos play smoother.

As leetut shows, overclocking isn't an either/or choice; you can overclock sometimes and not others. You might learn other things that overclockers learn, like how to cut down on power usage. There is some risk, but I haven't seen anyone hurt by overclocking here yet.

I think that kernel for power user gives you more options. If you don't plan to use the options (by under or overclocking, for example), they are equivalent, I think.

I've just OC'd my N900 using the 'Kernel for Linux Power Users' and 'Kernel for Linux Power Users (Settings)', all working fine, I've been testing out the kernels 'lv' and ideal, both seem stable and make a noticable difference to the device.

Using 'lv' I set the freq. limits to 250 - 750 and everything seems very stable and very snappy, I was a little concerned about the 'ideal' settings min freq. of 500MHz so didn't use it for too long.

What I would like to know is this:
How do I permanently set the kernel to 'lv', to freq 250 - 750 and have it enabled at startup so I don't have to go through the terminal every time I turn my phone off (or the battery dies).

I looked into the queen beacon app but the buttons are hideous and there's no way they're going on my home screen (I'm a graphic designer....so sue me).

I've read that you can make your own kernel and set it permanently so the N900 will only boot to the default kernel (250 - 600) if the device is rebooted more than once in a 5 minute period, though it's not clear, from what I've read, how to do this.

Please could someone advise me on this.

Thanks
James

Don't worry, I worked out what the wiki meant, copied the lv kernel to MyDocs and edited the max freq to 800MHz (I was feeling brave), then copied it/set it as default.

Well it really became more responsive, faster video loading etc especially while browsing heavy websites but I couldn't get higher than 750Mhz...so then i've used 500-750 lv mode, dont know why ideal didn't work for me, i guess my N900 has a bad CPU.... but still it wasnt 100% percent stable

I have mixed feelings about overclocking in general , it makes device faster but stability issues are annoying...sudden restarts, freezes ....if you really mess up reflash

I dont even know , install modified kernel just for overclocking doesn't seems reasonable cuz it changes a lot of other stuff so if you dont know what to do with them ( I don't have time to spend learning about Titan's kernel) its not worth it If you really go into details and tune every setting you will get most from your overclocking but its not working out of the box ( for me anyway )

There are other ways to improve performance without overclocking..remove unnecessary widgets, tune transistions.ini etc

I reinstalled original kernel and wont overclock for some time, maybe Titan will improve kernel or someone comes with another idea how to overclock without too much modifications to kernel

That's my opinion , I tried, I didnt like it

Cheers

Thanks

Once the new Kernel has been installed what are its default CPU settings. Anyone know??
