Maemo mapper is a fantastic little app, I decided against going for the Nokia kit due to its sheer cost, I've used mapper with a £20 GPS receiver constantly with no problems. That only fault I'd say are the audio directions are a bit rubbish.

MM is an excellent charting/route planning app and all you really need if you don't need redirects on the fly or up to date voice directions and have pre downloaded your maps. As a co-pilots tool it's perfect.

If it was just me, that's all I would be using. The Navicore kit was for my wife to use on her infrequent day trips for her job. For this, it adds value to our household N800 which may eventually stay in her car anyway. (This will help justify my next IT purchase. )

Thanks very much for the review and videos. I got one and am very happy with it.

Glad I was able to help! Are you having problems with POI searching as well?

Does anyone knows if Navicore gives free updates (in the next months/years?) for the maps and for the application ?

I only read that Navicore/770 buyers had free updates (for n800 software or the new navicore on 770?)

I have a question,

how does entering a address work, if you have a address like .. number, street, city , stat,e zip.. is it fast then, points of interest I use far less than a real address.

Thanks,
Eville

You can either start with the street or with the city.

If you start with the city, you enter the first few letters and the software lets you choose from a number of matches. Then, after choosing the city, it will show you an alphabetical list of letters, where you can construct the street name. E.g. to go to QUELLSTRASSE, it could look like this:
QU... QUE... QUELL... QUELLSTRASSE (4 finger taps and you're there!)

If you start with the street, the software gives you a list of cities to choose from after entering the street (or a part of it).

And last, you enter the number.

Yeah, I have the same question. I was considering purchasing an inexpensive Holux gps unit and using it for driving and trying it out as an aviation aid. However, I have no data service on my cell and couldn't get it in the air anyway. What mapping software for the n800 is out there where I wouldn't need an internet connection to use? I just bought my n800 last week and am new to it, but it seems like Maemo Mapper needs an internet connection to operate. TIA
