Hi
I was thinking of a way to offer a temporary solution to the offline searching in ovi maps. I have very little experience with Linux, so hence I'm asking if anyone has any ideas.
As far as my understanding goes (I come from a windows background with minor programing experience, mostly as a hobby), Ovi maps requires an internet connection to search for locations, the search item is presumably sent to a server which then sends back a list of locations that Maps will give the user as options (at least thats my understanding, correct my if its wrong). I have also heard of the host file which allows for the rerouting of internet connections. If there was a way to set up a temporary server on the n900, and then have all connections to the real ovi maps database routed to your own server, this would in essence offer offline searching.
Is this possible, or is it too late at night that I'm not thinking straight?
Edit: Whoops posted in the wrong section. Can someone please move it somewhere more relevant.
yeh it could work deppending on encryption (which could be solved) and the maps database would have to be reverse enginnered so every thing linked in correctly. Or possibly a wrapper class to catch the results and interprit them and pass them into the database.
