It really doesn't "suck" as much as you'd think. I just got my n800 on Friday (after a ton of research) and it's great. You just have to separate it in your mind that it's NOT A CELLPHONE and it's NOT A LAPTOP. You'd really be surprised how many random WiFi Hotspots there are. I happened to click on my n800 while waiting in line at the grocery store... and to my surprise a near by business had an open connection I could hop on too.

However, I would like to have a more constant/reliable connection, so I will probably get a data package with my cellular provider. Personally, I'd rather have a tiny cellphone and a small tablet in my pocket... versus having to lug-around a 7lbs laptop with me. n800 isn't for everyone... so it's really a toss up.

I really don't see what's the problem with "lugging around" a cell-phone. If you have alltel as a cell phone company, you just pay $6 for internet. For sprint you user cero. And i'm sure there's plans for verizon and cingular. Bottom line, theres a cost to having internet almost everywhere...

The point is that you don't need an N800.......if you want to call use a phone.
Calling from internet need a connection to internet, a connection to internet need a telephone line........
In any case you can choose just between call with phone (may be by using Skype...on a PDA) or hope to find a wireless connection free and call with anythings can use that connection for call (like N800 or PDA with wireless) there are no other possibility.....there is nothing that can connect to internet just because of magic.

Buy an N800 just for calling is a waste of money.

Anyway, i'am not sure but in every starbucks there is internet connection, and with tmobile you can pay less for that......but i don't remember how much.....

Sometimes is better to live in a city like mine, i can find connections free everywhere....

No, it doesn't. What sucks is your ability to find hotspots, I suppose. And when the Wimax N800s come out, I'm picking one up right away. Canada's already almost 100% covered by Wimax.

Sucking is relative.

Wait-- I think I should reword that...
