When you download flasher you will save it to your computer in a directory (folder). When you download the PR1.2 file you need to save it to the samer directory(folder) as the flasher program. When you look in Windows Explorer you will see both the flasher program and the firmware file in the same directory (folder).

That is what it means to save the firmware to the same directory. In Windows each directory has an icon that looks like a file folder. In DOS the subdivisions of your file system were known as directories. Because of the file folder icon in Windows some folks call them folders. I hope this touches on your issue.

I run the "flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_2.2009.51-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R" from the maemo flasher 3.5 cmd window. Windows ask me if i want to allow the process i click yes. Another cmd window flashes up for about a second and then the original cmd window appears with no change.

You forgot something so simple lol.
Follow this command: In "CMD" type the following command or copy and paste.

cd "%ProgramFiles%\maemo\flasher-3.5"

Then leave it open.

Turn off your N900, slide the keyboard out and press hold "U" button,

then plug in the USB to the N900 and to the PC, do not letting go of "U" button until you see "NOKIA"

in CMD, type the following command:
flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f

"IMPORTANT":
Make sure you have downloaded the correct firmware, and make sure the file.bin name is correct in the CMD.

Flashing eMMC afterward!! But not necessary unless you got a reboot loop

When flashing eMMC you will lose everything, so remember to do a full backup to a PC before doing so.

Make sure you go to Start > Acessories -> Right-Click on CMD "run as administrator"

Then try again

But did it work??
Anyway, I got an email from Vodafone yesterday confirming they are running their tests on the update. Pity the rest of the world can have the update but not us poor UK Vadafoners........

Followed nosa101's advices and reflashed my phone with the PR1.2 combined version and it wiped off the vodafone stuff and put on the new version - genius! All works well. I did find out that
1. It is important to get the command line exactly right or nowt appens!!
2. The Vanilla bit isn't really necessary just to do the upgrade

cheers again
