i used a file and filed all my connectors

I filed mine too. Because I had no other file here I used a nail file from my girlfriend. It worked great!

The first 2 connectors even better than the last ones. Now I can insert all connectors very smooth in my N900 without doubt.
But in the end and after a long discussion I had to buy a new nail file for my girlfriend.

i used a huge metal file, it shredded the plastic a bit LOL

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that the force on the USB port does not depend on where you grab the cable. Or where you hold the phone, as long as you hold it well.
It is better for the cable of course, but that is not an issue.

Still, it is good practice since the force applied is much more controlled.

haha, this discussions with your girlfriend make me laugh. this is a relief after all that fearful reports concerning breaking ports. thanks.

blaah i did all this and i dropped my phone accidently while charging and now the usb problems re beginning, cant use it while charging without it notifying me to disconnect or telling me its charging. gutted

I've been doing the same. MicroUSB port is still fine.

Yep. My guess is the port is broken on insertion, not extraction.

Been yanking that cord for 7 months now, no problems.

just so you know, i babied my device like no other, and it still went down. nokia replaced it without questions.

The root problem appears to be poorly bonded copper to the pcb substrate.

And while caution in removing the cable is a good idea in general, based on what we know about this problem it won't prevent all occurrences of component separation.
