If you give it both the partition and the mount point, then there should be no need for it to look at fstab.

so i just need to know where most of my apps are installed and replace it with the mmcblk0px........this is a challenge, i have no apps yet, (newly re-flashed)

try
mount -t ext3 /dev/mmcblkxpy /mount/dir
that should work

Not surprised - it'll just be looking at the free space on the /home filesystem, so won't take into account any other mount points you make.
