I'm highly interested in the N900, mostly because it runs an x server, and do some X11 forwarding. With me being away from my desktop much more than I'd like to be, often waiting, I'd like to be able to work away from my desk.

With that in mind, and all the apps I plan/hope to use over ssh, I figured I'd download the Maemo 5 SDK, and test out if:
A) They worked at all. Two of them (Blender and Makehuman) are OpenGL apps. I think Blender will run fine when it comes to OpenGL ES2, but I'm not sure how it forwards (I haven't a clue with Makehuman).

B) There interfaces were at all usable. Is there mouse emulation (Right click is a must, middle click would be nice), do keyboard shortcuts work, etc.

With those thoughts in mind, I went and downloaded the Maemo 5 SDK, and attempted to go at it, but appearently, the SDK doesn't include many of the things that would be on the N900 standard. Xterm isn't even installed, and I haven't been able to find a working way to install it.

That said, is there someway, maybe a different virtual device (QEMU?) where I could get a proper image, with the default apps/software/libs, and test these things out before I spent $460 for a phone that doesn't do what I dreamed?

Buy it in some store where you can return it.

The SDK does not include all features because it's a development kit. Not just a full emulator.

What you can do to get more programs/features is:

"sudo fakeroot apt-get" and install goodies that way.
