Everybody has gone off-topic on my question

I was only interested in N900 to N900 video call, not about computer to N900 call!

Upgrade to PR1.2, just finishing a video chat with another N800 using wifi. Audio is OK, video is bright and sharp from N800, but dark to an extend you cant hardly see anything from N900. And under the sun or go into the house did not change anything. Bottomline, N800 is more suitable for video chat today, unless one knows how to tweak the N900. BTW, I brought my N810 to HK, and have video chat from HK using wifi to USA on a daily basis and was very satifying. Any thoughts about tweaking the N900 video chat?

Oh, I was using gtalk, very effortlessly. Just click contacts it will 'slowly' come up a menu with a webcam icon, you click the icon, you are in video chat.

If it was specifically about the front camera itself, then yes, but since it's about the video calling feature inside Fremantle, it fits better here.

I've got several N900 owners near me (according to the Maemo Map, see my signature), but I don't want to be a stalker. :3

I have tried N900 to N800, (in that order, N800 to N900 won't work), video calling, though, and I have to say, it's pretty good. Maybe half a second of lag.

I got only N900<->Windows Skype Video calls working (N900/N900 not tested)
N900<->Windows+camera: ok, but only ~3-5 frames per second (WLAN)
N900<->Windows/without cam.: Videocall starts from N900 (camera on), but Windows does not receive the video, no video from opposite
N900<->Mac+camera: Videocall starts from N900 (camera on), but Mac does not receive the video, no video from opposite
N900<->Linux+camera+Skype beta: Videocall starts from N900 (camera on), but Linux does not receive the video, no video from opposite
(Windows<->Linux was working fine)

Did anybody had more success with non-Windows clients?

your question may be harder to answer than you think. there are other parameters that come into play, not only the N900's hardware and software.

Like: While I can make great Wifi to Wifi video calls from N900 to N900, I could not establish a video connection with the same contact when one of us was on his mobile network. (Actually, he could see me while i was on wifi, I couldn't see him when he was on 3G.)

I assume this is not a general problem with the N900 and 3G, but depends on the mobile carrier; some may block these calls. But the bottom line is: If you want to be certain it'll work in your setup, you'll need to ask somebody who has this setup exactly - or tell us how you intend to use video calls (like 3G to 3G only, Wifi to 3G, Wifi to Wifi, which carrier, ...)
