I don't think my friends computer has a built in bluetooth and I don't have the wires with me. Is there anyway I can transfer video/audio files from my friends laptop to my phone? All I have is wifi...

memory card reader if available. ssh if you can set it up. upload/download sites (zip everything you want into one file and then rapidshare etc.)

I use dumb ftp. turns n900 into an ftp server that a computer can log into wirelessly. n900 and PC have to be on the same network. I'm not sure if it's working with 1.2 as it needs qt 4.6 and packages for that might've changed.

Otherwise, good old bluetooth + petrovich (to send)

winscp is very useful I think. you can make any copy of whatever file. I'm not sure about its possibilities pasting over WAN tho. That IS possible isn't it?

It is, under the following limitations :
- If the 3g IP address is public, you must know it (:
- if the 3g IP address is private, it won't work, unless you set up reverse forwarding.

You can also use wifi in ad-hoc mode between the laptop and the N900 and use winscp like someone mentioned before.
