Hi,
how are you syncing folders between N900 and your PC? Is it already possible or do we need to wait for future Ovi Suite releases?

Thanks a lot!

Hi,
if you connect N900 in mass storage mode, you can use any file/folder synchronization utility.

The following programs are available natively for Linux PCs, but you can run them also on Windows through Cygwyn utility. There are also modified versions for Mac OS. Search the Web to find them.
  • rsync - command line tool. You can run it either on the computer or on the N900.
  • grsync - graphical user interface for rsync to setup synchronization jobs. In Fremantle Extras-testing there is also a version for N900, so you can setup synchronization from the device itself.
  • unison - another graphical tool.

There are also several Windows-only user-friendly synchronization utilities. Based on my experience, I would recommend Allway Sync.

But is there any app to sync files on my N900 with "clouds".
Like dropbox. I can upload automatically my files on my PC to my dropbox account. Is there any app like dropbox for N900?

Not that I have seen. You can loginto m.dropbox.com and downloading the files manually or you can use www.pixelpipe.com and setup a dropbox path to sync to your dropbox account.

But no nifty little applications yet, which is a shame IMO. I am hoping someone does it.

The applications mentioned above have not worked for me, at all, in any scenario. I'm sure part of the reason why is I am doing something wrong, but when I know I'm not, they just don't work!

Here is a nice guide on how to configure automated syncronisation between your N900 and any unison device with SSH, for example an Ubuntu Server och desktop or your Mac. Just follow the guide half the way and leave the iPhoto thing aside. Works well using unison and cron. Of course it would be nice to have an app for this instead of "hacking" everything yourself.

You may try DropN900 , however, the auto sync feature is not ready on the package file due to the rules of first Maemo Competition. It will need to wait for few days.

I came in here to post the same exact thing.

How do you like DropN900? I have it installed, not ran it once yet though, was going to look for some feedback first.

It misses automated syncronisation, witch does not secure that you always have your data with you or secured. Will still go for unison. Good program though..
