Recently ive had the loose usb charger problem with my n900 and have had to use a alternative charging method, but the problem is that i cannot update my maemo software due to this. Application manager just gives the "to update your device to this version of the operating system you must use the nokia software update application on your pc"

just wondering if there is a work around to this?

AFAIK no. If your USB port broke, just go to your local Nokia Service Center and have the USB port replaced - it should be covered by your warranty.
