I just bought an optoma pico projector to use with my N900. The projector's speakers are a disappointment though, and I want to play audio from the internal N900 speakers. Do you know if this is possible in any way?

Try connecting only the yellow cable to the projector, not the white and red(which are audio cables).

already tried that, no sound at all (I think the N900 sees the connector is plugged in and redirects all sound to the jack)

If I could play sound on both the N900 and the projector it would be even better...

    I solved the problem!

    Here's a howto:

    1. Fire X-terminal
    2. type
    Code:
    alsamixer -c0
    3. use the left-right arrows to highlight "HP DAC"
    4. set the HP DAC volume to 100 using the up arrow
    5. highlight the first 'right DAC' entry (next to DAC-R1)
    6. press M to turn it on -- the MM above it should turn to OO
    7. repeat steps 5 - 6 for the first 'left DAC'
    8. go to the last option 'speaker' and press the up arrow to switch it on.
Now you should hear audio on both speakers and headphones

(you should be able to turn headphones off by reducing their volume or turning the third left DAC and right DAC off, but I didn't try that)

Now I hope someone has the time and skill to make this a status area applet...

    Really THANKS for this!

I love the stereo on my N900 but it lacked bass.

On my laptop i use one X-mini II (a mini speaker with an incredible bass and sound) on my MIC connection along with the laptop speakers and that combination of speakers created an very enjoyble sound experience, and i wanted to do the same with my n900 (using my X-mini alongside with the internal speakers), and now i can

I REALLY Apreciated if someone could to an applet with this. I would do it myself but i lack the knowledgment (i know this is a common phrase but it's the truth...)

Once again, thanks to you qwazix and to this amazing comunity!

ps:And sorry for any mispelled word, but my native language isn't english :\

There should be no problem with that, it should just work out of the box.

I managed to make your commands work only when I changed line 3 to
    Code:
    amixer -c0 cset numid=64 1
    maybe it's a PR1.2 change

I made an sh file. Can I package this as an app and publish it to extras-devel?
