Hi all. I have problem with updating the maps on my device. As I read in the Nokia website they say that the device must be connected in Mass Storage mode in order to update the maps. But when I connect it that way, Map Loader says that I must connect it in PC Suite. And in PC Suite it says that my phone does not have a valid Maps drive and I should either run Maps on the phone (if never before) or connect in Mass Storage.. and this cycle goes on again and again. How to update the latest maps? :S

If you're trying to update the maps, get the OVI/Nokia Map loader, and connect the device in Mass Storage Mode. Note that before you load maps the first time, you need to run the map program at least once before connecting the device to the PC so it can setup the folders needed.

You do not need to use PC Suite mode for map loading on the N900. If you have PC Suite on the device, any time you connect it in anything but PC Suite mode it will complain about it. That's normal. You're not using PC Suite to load the maps, you're using the Nokia Map loader, which is a stand along program. Ignore PC Suite while loading maps.

This is all covered both in the manual, and in help for the map loader itself. (It's also been discussed in the forum quite a bit. Please use the search function in the future before posting a new thread.)

Not for OVI Maps, but you may be able to do something like this with Navit and/or Mappero. Both are in the extras (or extras-testing) repositories, and I think both support user-based maps. You may have to massage the map into a certain format, but it's probably documented on how to do it. Search for the [ Announce ] threads for each and look for help there.

woody, i know what to do and how to do it with Map Loader, it just didn't work. Whatever i was trying to do .. it didn't.

Now with OVI Suite it works, but it is very slow and happens to timeout if I wanna download the whole map of Europe.. is it my internet?

Is you PC/Notebook running on Vista? I think this might be the problem. I've got the same and when I tried on a Win XP maschine it runs with the first try.

I've used a simple solution.

if you have another nokia device , wich is compatible with nokia map downloader or Nokia ovi suite, you can update that phone's map, then copy the folder named 'cities' from memory card to the same folder on n900 memory.

it's very simple, but you need another compatible phone.
I used my friend's phone.
