Remotely select your songs and hear it from your stereo deck, NOT mediastreaming..........

Media streaming is fine, if you want to hear your favorite music from the 770 'hi-fi' speaker. I understand you may need that on some occasions. I have my $400 old desktop PC hooked up to a $2000 stereo deck which also includes home theatre (Yes, I am a 100% music buff, computing is just what I need to go from point A to point B). I want to hear music from my stereo without having physically drag myself to the computer desk. I can remotely control my stereo deck, but I cannot select songs as they are on my cheap PC. Now I have VNC. Of course other sysop may use VNC for its networking or whatnot, for me, VNC is my super remote control. Setup VNC,

.... (pasted from Boblinds posting)

1. Install VNC Viewer on your Nokia: http://maemo.org/downloads/product/vnc-viewer/

2. Install Ultra VNC on your PC: http://www.uvnc.com/ and run it.

3. Do a little reading on both sites about the programs.

4. On your PC, right click the Ultra VNC icon in the menu bar and select Admin Properties. In the Authentication area, enter a password.

5. On the Start Menu of your PC, go to Accessories, open a Command Prompt, type ipconfig and press <Return>.

6. Make note of your IP Address so you can enter it in VNC Viewer on your Nokia.

7. On the Nokia, run VNC Viewer and enter the IP address of your PC, along with the password that you entered in Ultra VNC.

With Boblinds's simple straight instructions, I set the whole thing up in less than 120 seconds. Thank you Boblinds.

I am a very happy soul this Saturday of my life, as this even better than the Micro$oft's remote control, the 770 gives you a keyboard as well as a monitor, right in your palm.

post if you have question how to do this, enjoy

This is what I did to setup VNC, straight from Boblinds,

Go www.ultraVNC.com, dl uVNC, install uVNC, setup password for authentication (the menu is very intimidating, but you do not have to do anything with it, in fact, better to just leave it alone, just enter a password and that is all). On my 770, just looked at your App Manager, chances are VNCviewer is already there, just install it. (If not, go maemo.org, downloads/communications.) Bam, your are controlling your desktop remotely! Even faster than setup my TVersity from my previous WOW.

a very happy soul, listening to Hold me tight by Johnny Nash

I do the same but prefer realVNC on the PC - have been using it since it was still an AT&T project

Does anyone know of any support for file downloads?

I somehow got SFTP support on my N800, and it works well and easily for file downloads from the main other computer I use.
