While nowhere as close to other mainstream Linux distros, AFAIK there is a fair number of familiar components, bluez, gstreamer, GTK+, SELinux, etc...

The MeeGo version could likely be pulled back to Maemo 5 however, but I suspect that will be borderline warez as Adobe sees the mobile space as something they charge handset vendors for and not open like the PC realm.
As per the Open Screen Project site: "Future versions starting with the next major versions of Flash Player and AIR for devices are royalty free as part of the Open Screen Project. However, a license (contract) still needs to be in place between Adobe and the licensee. "

Yes, however even casual review of their FAQ shows that their base is fundamentally anti-open source, requiring a minimum contribution of $20K to simply access their code, and over $200K to distribute. So even though they may include some familiar components, the system as a whole is entirely opaque, negating the value of the familiar components.

Not talking about the "political" position of LiMo, merely the technical aspects (since your original comment was about Linux compatibility).

Qole, it has nothing whatsoever to do with you, it is Nokia who it's pathetic of. To have someone who is effectively acting as a company spokesman who is not even employed by Nokia is really amazingly low.

I'm pretty sure that Nokia employees have seen your statement, since it has been quoted many times on these forums. They haven't rushed in to correct it, so they are in effect allowing it to stand as a statement of Nokia policy.

Sorry that I misunderstood the statement that you need a job as meaning that you are unemployed.

What I meant is that you don't have any official status at ANY company -- now I know that you have status at the company where you are still working.

I am not employed at any company -- I suppose that since you think my statement about you was really harsh, you think that the same statement about myself is equally harsh. I'm really lashing out here... It would be even more pathetic for Nokia to allow me to be the best source of accurate information concerning an important Nokia policy.

So now I've torn both of us to shreds, I guess, by way of apology.

So someone backports the meego version, and makes it available in the same fashion that DVD decoding codecs are available to Linux users.

Either way, for those of us that really care, I think we will all be using MeeGo by October whether Nokia supports it or not.

I wonder would the backport of the MeeGo version of Flash 10.1 be as slow and buggy as the version that was shoved into OS2007HE. I remember that being painful - due to CPU more than likely, but it never worked properly.

Yes. Using some 3D engines. Such Alternativa3D, Papervison 3D, Away3d or Sandy. Pure math. First attempts were done even in Flash 5 but AS1 and AS2 was to slow. That was possible and usable straight after they released Action Script 3.0 and new virtual machine that came close to Java VM in terms of calculation speed and flexibility of the language, so Flash 8.5 beta +.

And that 3D movement cause Adobe to improve drawing API based on triangles and is now native part of AS3.

Very basic stuff. However Flash 10.1 promised vector drawings acceleration as well based on this new drawing API. Flash Player can make an triangulation/tesselation process and pass data to the GPU in order to speed up any drawing operations.

It doesn't seems to be available right now but there is no to many folks (and only one platform) to trying it out and developing content with this in mind.

So I don't know what Hardware acceleration implementation you talking about

But this is not the end of story.
Flash 11 will be fully accelerated.
(Same source for those who think HTML5 will reach flash. If that will happen over next 2 years, flash will be one step ahead )

Isn't the N9 using the same hardware (Cortex A8) as the N900 though? That seems alot different compared to going from the 770 to the n800.

Flash will work, but sites demanding the latest version won't, and I doubt that anything that wants a new feature will work.
