I swapped my 16GB uSDHC cars for a new 32GB uSDHC, and after about a week, gPodder failed downloading a podcast reporting a readonly filesystem on the card.

The easiest way to fix it is to plug the N900 into another computer and use that to fix it (fsck, Disk Utility or whatever Windows uses).

I recall this happening once before with the old card, but it doesn't seem to be a repetitive thing. Perhaps the new cards aren't properly formatted in the factory.

fsck is installed on the N900 by default, but not in user's path.
Code:
root
umount /dev/mmcblk1p1
fsck /dev/mmcblk1p1
mount /dev/mmcblk1p1 /media/mmc1
rootsh has to be installed.

Indeed, but if the user is sat at their puter, then plugging in the N900 and fixing it with the host PC is probably easier. Using fsck on the device is also good

I doubt that there is a problem with OpenSSH or WinSCP. I use them all the time (well, I use WinSCP at work where I have a Windows PC).

You need to supply more details.

How do you copy things? As which user? Do you do a sync after the copy has been done to make sure that all data has been transferred?

If you copy files as root to the wrong place, you can very much destroy things.

Also be sure to use a well behaved text editor if you are editing files through WinSCP. You don't want Windows style line-ending in your conf files - that could be considered corruption, I guess, but not at the filesystem level.

I connect to N900 as root user & file protocol is SFTP

when I try to send file, WinSCP raises the following error
Code:
cannnot create remote file
'/media/mmc1/files/photo1.jpg.filepart'
General failure (server should provide error description).
Error code: 4
Error message from server: Failure
Request code: 3
I should say every thing is ok when I write to original memory of N900

I think there is no one to use MMC with WinSCP ;-)
