Im trying to install VLC but everthing I find is either a half comeplte guide or moves off topic..

Does anyone have a guide of how to install it from scratch?

Yeah, though it looks like there are still some issues. Got it running, tried to play a video, N900 rebooted.

But I'm glad to finally see some progress on this front, quite a few things (sopcast, veetle) are gated on having VLC up and running on the N900.

I installed it and there was no icon in the menu just the name.The program doesnt actually load and it crashes everytime(sometimes reboots).
Fix.

There is no GUI for it yet, if you want to use it you must launch it using XTerm not the icon (menu entry with a name but no image)

Yes there is. Any it works fine. You simply need delete the Symlinks so it starts:

rm /usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/hildon/vlc.png
rm /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/hildon/vlc.png
rm /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/hildon/vlc.png

another repo, why do all other project developers(firefox vlc and opera(this one is not anymore)) use their own repos instead maemo's repos?

thanks Reffyyyy.........its working but .mkv and other video is not running well on vlc media player just hang on. And waiting for the update................

Why using VLC perticularly?

I think SiB is great so far.
