I think that's the whole point, dude...
(so we can't see the points...)
I doubt the difference (in power consumption and performance) is significant or noticeable...
Indeed.. My original point was 800x480 on a phone good.. 640x360 is a bit dated.. I'm not saying 800x480 is bad.. I'm saying the s60-5th edition standard is just a bit low these days.. and if this prototype is bringing a higher res to Symbian devices, then good!
growing a 640x360 display to 4inchs would suffer the Nintendo DS effect.. the pixels become larger and postage stamp like.. bigger screens are good, provided the DPI doesn't fall to the floor..

Yeah. High dpi/ppi can become a double edged sword if the rest of the components don't take advantage of the extra resolution in a good way:
- rescaleable display elements
- don't require the users to make use of needles to hit the input buttons
- proper performance optimization
etc.
absolutely.. "actual size" should be consistent and comfortable.. There's no reason that text should appear LARGER just because the screen is physically larger.. it should be the same size... just with more of it on the screen
@cpitchford: I think that's what it used to be in the past when screen of different size maintain similar dpi. On screen gfx elements (Esp bitmapped ones) are not scaled up/down too much, so the behavior is like what you described...
Now the screen size (and ratio) come in more varieties and the dpi/ppi also varies more widely (wildly?).
Well to be honest, more pixels are good, but apple went overboard. the 5800 i had looked better than my ipod touch, and the n900 better still. the n900 balances pixel count, clarity and text size/ui perfectly imo.

That is very interesting.
Care to share what metric/signs did you use to get a sense of what was 'just right'?
I've always been impressed and overwhelmed when a new graphic technology becomes available for the mass; but never once that something like "No way, this is too good for us!!" crossed my mind
Eldar Murtazin from MR thought it was going to be N8-1 but his not sure anymore. It will probally not be C7 because it's supposedly already leaked(http://i.afterdawn.com/storage/pictures/nokia_c7_1.jpg). E series would make most sense to me.
Oddly enough one of the firmware screenshots says HW79 - IIRC that's Vasco's code, a.k.a. N8.
