    On my N800, I can use the virtual keyboard to type the { } "curley" brackets.

    Hitting the 'Chr' key will give you a list of additional characters. Then you have to scroll to the second screen (there is an 'up' and 'down' arrow, which is kinda pointless because there are only two screens and you'll get there with either arrow).

    Press the Chr key. An small on-screen menu will appear. Scroll down and click the { curly bracket } keys

    minute() { foo=`date +%S`; echo $foo; if [ "$foo" -lt "30" ]; then echo "under half"; else echo "over half"; fi; }

    Wow -- somehow that tidbit of knowledge managed to elude me all this time! I've just be copying & pasting other people's curly braces. Same thing with the pipe symbol.

    I was going to make an input table for scim to incorporate the "missing" symbols like

    | % ^ etc.

    But then I found that the maemo-scim author has already done it

    Code:
    apt-get install mscim-tables-symbol
