@johnel: actually I've seen some pretty darn good artwork and tools from the capacitive camp too. Check these out:

How they make use of multitouch screen: (check out the quick gestures for zoom and pans)

lol.. I think the trick is to keep abreast of what the 'enemies' are doing and incorporate what's good from their camp to ours

BTW, let's not derail this fantastic thread into cap vs resistive screen discussion

Because apple's products has a capacitive screen, it doesn't have pressure sensitivity like the N900 has (which IS utilized in MyPaint), plus capacitive screen must use a special conductive stylus, while the N900 and its resistive screen supports any tool which applies a required amount of pressure.

I'd say that the best screen for a graphic artist is a combination of a resistive screen (for pressure sensitive input, which is important), and capacitive screen (for accuracy) - but if a graphic artist has to choose between a capacitive or a resistive screen, I think he'll go for resistive, and as far as I remember all the Wacom tablets, which are the favorite tool for graphic artists, are pressure sensitive...

I have a Wacom tablet at home and pressure sensitivity is useful but you can adjust opacity, mind you pressure sensitivity is useful for drawing calligraphy lines.

In one of the videos links the person actually makes a crude stylus out of a pen, tin foil and sticky tape.

I like the way you can use multi-touch to move the canvas around too.

@ysss: Yep I definately missed a trick there - I promise to pay more attention.

I think I may start drawing and doing artsy stuff agian - I kinda feel inspired by this thread.

I've just installed mypaint - me likeee, perfect for my train ride to London!

Capacitive screens are not more accurate really, only more sensitive, since they don't really require the user to press down hard, just touch. I think the graphic artist and I would choose a phone with an active digitizer if there were some phones with it. shame really that there are no real contenders there.

    PS. sorry for derailing.
