I just got my 770 from buy.com a few days ago, and have been playing with it since. I notice that sometimes when I pick it up pressing the power button will switch it on immediately, sometimes I have to hold the power button for several seconds, and sometimes I have to press it several times to make it come on. Is there some secret that I don't know about here? I have charged it (once) up to a full charge. I have not left it on the charger overnight. The only software that I have added is FBReader. Do you think I have a bad unit?

Same thing happens with me too. After several hours of installing apps and changing themes, this is what I've observed.

If you let your unit go idle/standby, pressing any key (including power button) would make it come on instantly.

If you 'switch off', this will require holding the power button to make it come on again.

While the unit is off after the 'switch off' is initiated, you'll have to wait a few seconds to power the unit back on. Otherwise, you'll have to press and hold it again.

I thought I had a defective unit when the backlight stopped working once my backlight went away yesterday. Still getting adjusted to my unit as well as of this morning.

I thought it was just me when I turned it off since an app crashed and I couldn't kill the app. So the key is to wait a minute before trying to turn it on.
