It's good to hear that you determine to flash it again. It may save your time doing so. Remember to download the right flash and eMMC images and flash both. Don't skip flashing eMMC image like many others, as it's problematic in some case.

I've never tried the backup software from Nokia (I'm not that trust Nokia's suite software anyway). You may tell us what you want to backup and we may figure out how it can be done in other way.

I push everything to my gmail account, including the calendar so flashing is less painful for me. May be you could try that as well.

I'm sorry to hear about your problems.

It would appear that you have MADE ABSOLUTELY NO EFFORT WHATSOEVER TO RESEARCH THE PRODUCT THAT YOU HAVE PURCHASED and are now one very unhappy little camper.

Excluding a few disrespectful people, most of the replies on this thread have been from N900 users who are actually trying to offer solutions.

You appear to have no interest in making an attempt to find/install solutions to the problems you have described (as suggested by many here), preferring to stick like glue to the basis of your original post.

A little further research would also have provided you with the information regarding PC Suite limitations.

If you spent a little less time pissing and moaning endlessly about the lack of glaringly obvious (to you) sms notifications, and some more trolling the mind-numbingly large amount of info on reflashing and backing up, you may have resolved the vast majority of your (dare I suggest "operator error" related) problems.

If you're not going to listen to help when it's offered by a community that OWES YOU NOTHING, see how far you get with your complaining to Nokia...

you're behaviour quite frankly, has thus far been like that of spoiled little child

It sounds like you are trying to use nokia software updater to re-flash your device, that's not what your meant to do, sorry for not making that clear.

To re-flash (different from updating) you need to download the firmware image and emmc image, and the maemo flasher 3.5 utility from here:
http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php

You will need to provide your imei number to enter the site.

Once you have downloaded all 3 files, perform a backup using the backup utility on the n900, once that has completed connect your phone to a pc via the usb cable and transfer the backup on the n900 to your pc, make sure you keep it somewhere safe.

Install maemo flasher 3.5 then follow the wiki page on updating the firmware, found here:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware

Make sure you flash the firmware and emmc, you also have to do this in a particular order (cant remember which, I'm sure someone will chime in though).

Once you are done and you have your n900 running a fresh pr1.2 again, transfer the backup to your n900 and use it to restore your phone, but only restore calender and contacts, don't restore your list of programs as you may have had a few causing problems (I know you said you have no apps installed so this may be a non-issue for you).

When that's done manually go through the repositories and download the apps you would like.

Here's some documentation to help you:

Graphical Walkthrough for Windows:

Text Walkthrough:

http://thenokiablog.com/2010/05/25/h...900-maemo-1-2/

Wiki Page:

I recommend you look over all of them, to give you a good understanding of the procedure.

Good luck.

(I must have re-posted that at least 20 times now...)
