Hey guys

I have an e71 currently, and am sick and tired of it.

Only problem, I am on AT&T 3G, and the WCDMA bands supported by n900 aren't compatible with mine. So I will be stuck using 2G.

Here's what I want to know -

Are there any users who use n900 on AT&T? How good is AT&T's 2.5G connection (I am assuming that's all you get right?).

That aside, here's what I am using my e71 for, and am hoping to be able to continue doing it on n900 -

1. Google maps. I often do lookups for hotels and other business establishments around me, for address and phone number. Can I view google maps in n900? If only to look up addresses and phone numbers?

2. Video /audio conference : I use Nimbuzz / Fring / Skype lite. Now Fring has released an application which uses front facing camera for video chatting, but only on newer Symbian phones (another reason I hate my e71). Is it possible to do video calls with Gtalk or skype on n900?

And I am guessing I have pidgin itself directly?

3. Any ebook reader apps on n900?

4. Other browsers - opera browser? Or any other browser (I like to have multiple browsers on my phone - on my e71 I have Skyfire, Opera mobile, Opera mini and the default)

5. BT tethering - VERY VITAL. On my ubuntu box, I use wvdial to connect to e71 through bluetooth and share it's 3G connection. Can I do that here?

6. A2Dp - Does n900 have this? Is it good?

If I can do the above 5, I wouldn't mind dumping the e71 for n900 at the price of a slower data connection (2G as opposed to my current 3G)

I used AT&T connection with Nokia N900. Currently for data it is 2.5G on this device with AT&T. Even though 3g service is provided by AT&T, n900 is not compatible with AT&T's 3G service. However this device is still preety good. I was able to use audio skype that comes built in preety fine using 2.5G, with some time getting some disturbances due to slightly slow connection. I also ocasionally downloaded large files, it was slightly slow but this phone used to keep downloading files at backend. I still long to use 3G on this phone.

About the browsers, I did not use multiple browsers on this phone yet, however n900 default browser is excellent. Browser plays utube videos, flash animations.

I really love n900 multi tasking. It makes multitasking very easy.

Furthemore if you are a unix developer you will love this device.

One of the drawback I faced is that there are not many developers for this device and because of that there are not many applications available for this device at the moment. This device is capable of doing many things, but due to lack of application available there is limitations.

at&t 2.5g is pretty slow, but the phone is still definately worth it on at&t regardless. not sure how the bluetooth tethering works on 2g, but there is a tethering app in the ovi store and also myhotspot in extras.
Opera brower is REALLY nice, event without flash, and its really fast.

1. Google maps works pretty well in default browser.
3. Theres actually two: FBReader and MGutenberg. I have only used FBReader but its pretty good.
4. There's the default browser (MicroB), Firefox mobile, normal Firefox (trough EasyDebian), Tear (WebKit based), Midori (also WebKit based), Opera Mobile and then there is Chromium but its temporarily deleted from repos.
6. I don't know about this one, some smarter person have to help you with this one.

Browsing is slow compared to wifi or 3g. Video calls are out unless you're on wifi.

I'm planning on going to an AT&T store tomorrow and borrowing a SIM to test it out before I commit any cash to a 2G plan.

I'll tell you what I find tomorrow.

Works for me, been using it since December. Fairly slow but for things like e-mail, IRC and light browsing it works quite well.

Admittedly, I'm on an older $15 unlimited dumb phone plan so it's a tossup.
