Since I am out of my country, I am making calls to Lebanon and that cost me too much.
Now, I am trying to start using internet to mobile calls using my nokia n900 but i am confused.
I check Skype calls and yahoo calls,
I find the followings:
- Skype calls rate to Lebanon: 0.282 $ per min.
- Yahoo calls rate to Lebanon: 0.208 $ per min.
are there any other options that I can use with my n900 with lower price ?
As far as I can tell, Skype negotiates its prices directly with the network operators, and there are only a few reasons why Skype would keep a high price.
First of all, you have to understand how telephone companies charge. There are two main fees, the connection fee, and the duration fee. The connection fee (also known as the call termination fee) is where most receiving operators make most money, because quite often they can charge as much as they want.
So it looks like Lebanon is just in the same situation France was a few years ago. The mobile operators would charge the calling company very much for connecting the call, even though the "per minute" price wasn't excessive.
Because it would be nearly impossible to charge the users for the connection cost and then the duration of the call, the phone companies package the whole thing in a "per minute" cost. They see how the termination fee costs, and how much the "per minute" cost, and make a new price they then sell to customers.
In other words: You will be hard pushed to find a better deal to call mobiles in Lebanon using VoIP.
