Hi guys, I'm really upset and annoyed with my device. It's NOT running like it should be and I have some issues with it.

- I can't load any pages or use my internet connection after being connected to my wifi here @ home for some time. My linksys router uses the "PIN Protection" method... I haven't tried my device with the router @ work. But this is VERY annoying. Only rebooting my device restores connectivity. When I can't load pages, the device still says I'm connected.

- After clicking "Download" in the app manager, the catalogue takes well over a minute to load. I've only added Maemo Extras, Testing and Extras Devel. Is this normal? After installing and app, the refresh time also takes near 2 minutes.

- I'm reorganizing my phone .. I have 1247 contacts since MSN, Facebook and Gmail duplicates many of em and I have to merge them. When I hit "Merge", the phone takes ~ 10 - 15 seconds to load up my contacts list.

- Closing applications from the task manager can takes anywhere between ~ 1 - 5 seconds.

I've since done an eMMC and Fiasco flash. Now my SD card is seen as read only.

Hmmm.... I was having LOADS of trouble with my N900 freezes and keeling over when I started running a few apps. I formatted the drive last night. It seems to be running a little better this morning. I'm going to observe it more today.

Re the Wifi connectivity. I've deleted the connection and set it up manually and this does not work either.
Disconnecting and reconnecting does not work and not even /etc/init.d/networking restart works.
Only a restart solves the problem

Can anyone make any suggestions about how I can fix this? I'm a Ubuntu user, I should be feeling right @ home now but I'm not. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

try to connect to a different router if you have the opportunity, see if the problem still persists.

if it's the same ... If I were you I will:

reflash n900. overclock it. install transitioncontrol. for improved performance.

Trying different router is definitely good advice for that internet problem. I've had some very annoying problems with linksys wrt-series router, had to switch to third party firmware to get wifi work properly!

To fix those other issues, could reflash help with them?

to 1:try switch your router on and off maybe it help
to 2:its normal your app manager got to download any information from your catalogues.if you have morefrom them it takes longer.try to disable them and then you will see the manager will speed up.
to 3 and 4rograms from extras, devel and testing can make many problems in your device(i guess you read the thousand warnings about them?)try to reflash another time(emmc and fiasco)and then dont use your app backup list.try to install everythink from scratch(app after app)and look after every install what happens to your speed.if the probs are still there post a conky screenshot and maybe someone cann tell you more to that issue

After yet ANOTHER flash... thankfully the wireless router @ home does not give trouble. The one @ work works fine. It doesn't have the WiFi protected setup mess.

I've just gotta vent a bit... I am MOST disappointed in this device. My N82 runs WAAAYYY better than this. The device cannot do simple things simultaneously.
  • If I'm playing music and I try to do anything... e.g. view the task manager, open another program, almost anything.. it stalls... and so badly that the buttons on the music player widget on the desktop no longer work
  • The device is generally VERY unresponsive... sometimes when the screen is in idle mode... i slide it out n touch it and have to wait seconds for it to come up.
  • I select an application from the Task Manager and things are SEVERELY delayed, so much so that I can see a "frame" in the animation

I'll be posting some screenshots.

I've posted three images.

Out of curiosity - which OS version are you running?

There is a contact merger (Merge your duplicate contacts) in extras-devel and while its not perfect, it does a find contacts to merge and can do multiple at the same time.

Application Manager is very slow, you can try the "Faster Application Manager" in extras-devel

I don't have responsiveness problems lately even on 600 MHz, but you can try overclocking, there is a big thread somewhere around here.

I'm running PR1.2. I'm really starting to wonder if something is wrong with the processor or the graphics chip. Is there any way I can test that?

Ok... I overclocked to 800 Mhz. Seems to be running more like what I expect. I'm learning bit by bit about what slows it down though. The app manager for example really takes up much when it is running.. I'll be avoiding that. I've already installed Faster App Manager and I'm using the contact merger as we speak. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'll keep posting on my experience. Hope it helps someone.
